The situation between the Republic of India (South India) and Pakistan (North India) is actually very similar to that between China, Taiwan, or Mongolia. South India or the Republic of India will never become a prosperous and powerful nation unless it resolves the Pakistan issue. Could India and Pakistan simply live their own separate lives, like the United States and Canada? This is certainly a solution, but the problem is that as long as authoritarian Pakistan exists, Indians cannot live a good life. North India cannot tolerate South India living better than itself. As long as South India outperforms North India, it proves that North India's politics are a failure.
